Enjoying Buenos Aires

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Buenos Aires is a radiant and cosmopolitan city which ranks right up there with my favourite cities in the world. It is filled with action and things to do. Favourite spots would be Recoleta, La Boca and of course the amazing area of Palermo. Of these 3 Palermo is probably my favourite followed closely by Recoleta. There really is a great vibe to the city especially when you get into the squares, restaurants, cafés and bars of the smaller districts.

My top recommendations for restaurants are mainly centred around Palermo, an exquisite gastronomic area. My favourite is Miranda, located at the corner of Costa Rica and Fitz Roy. The steaks in this place are the best I have ever tasted and it’s very reasonably priced. Closely following Miranda are La Cabrera and Il Ballo del Mattone. La Cabrera is one of the most popular restaurants in Palermo and it is often difficult to get a table without a reservation unless you don’t mind queuing outside with the rest of the last minuters! It is an extremely romantic place with a great ambience. Finally, check out Il Ballo del Mattone, the food is not as high a quality as the other 2 but it has an unbelievable atmosphere and is just so cool that it’s definitely worth a trip. Also they practically give the food away in this place it is so cheap.

For hotels, I would recommend the excellent Caesar Park located conveniently in Recoleta. It is an extremely luxurious hotel with very well appointed rooms and great service…..and of course the location is top notch. Other top spots include the Four Seasons Hotel and the well priced Argenta Towers Hotel which both command prime locations in Buenos Aires.

Finally, my last must-do for you, visit a bar called Antares at Armenia 1447 (between Gorriti and Jose A. Cabrera), Palermo Viejo. It brews it’s own beers and has great atmosphere and character. Boasting no less than seven of it’s own beers it is sure to have something for every palate.
