Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Have you been thinking about taking a short city break over Easter? Well Edinburgh is the definitely the city to avail of the bank holiday and grab a short city break. Check out the top deals on EliteRooms.com and amazing special offers on the widest range of Edinburgh’s top hotels.

Edinburgh has one of the most beautiful cityscapes in the world, making it the ideal city break destination. Enjoy a day out at one of Edinburgh’s many events this spring and summer. If it’s worth celebrating, you can be sure there’s a festival in Edinburgh dedicated to it! From ceilidhs and science to ghost, film and food festivals there’s always something going on in the festival city, and that’s just for starters.

Discover world-class museums and galleries, take a tour on an open-top bus or even visit the city’s own zoo. From the world famous Festivals to top-class restaurants and bars, not to mention fabulous shopping, you’ll be spoilt for choice. With streets steeped in history and a thriving cultural scene, the City of Edinburgh offers the perfect balance between all things traditional and contemporary.

If you’re after great value have a look at the Best Western Bruntsfield Hotel. With rooms from only ÂŁ70 this hotel is the perfect base for those on a budget. If you fancy something a little more upmarket but still easy on the pocket then try our personal favourite, the Radisson SAS Hotel Edinburgh. This is a fabulous hotel, perfectly situated in the heart of the city with rooms from only ÂŁ165 this is probably the best option in the city.

The busiest season for tourists in Edinburgh is summer (between July and September) and particularly in August, for the world-famous Edinburgh International Festival, when the city is abuzz with cultural activity. There are also the lively Fringe Festival, Military Tattoo and the Book, Film and Jazz Festivals, which run concurrently with the main event.

Edinburgh Advice

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

I read an article by Deirdre Mullins on RTE.ie yesterday on Edinburgh at Christmas and I have to say I am in total agreement with her. However, it is worth pointing out that I am a huge fan of Edinburgh in general. Having been to the city for numerous rugby weekends and as a romantic getaway I can safely say that Edinburgh has something for everyone.

For me, the Radisson Hotel is the best hotel to stay in, great value and great location. It is ranked behind the Best Western and Apex on our site based on reviews but based on my own personal experience I would go for the Radisson every time. The other hotels are excellent also just not quite as good!

For going out, and lets face it, Edinburgh is about going out, try The Dogs (Hanover Street) for a bite to eat and then head down to the Grassmarket area for a few pints. My own personal favourite is the White Hart Inn, I have had a couple of super nights there with great live music. Although you’re hardly stuck for choice in this area!

Enjoy!
