Lahinch is an oft forgotten but cracking little town, cracking for those not up with the Irish-speak means great!! It has developed into a serious surf town over the last few years but has retained its charm in doing so. Walk down the promenade and you will run into numerous “surf schools”, these generally take the form of wetsuits hanging out the back of a van and trailer full of surf boards. You can strip off on the spot grab a suit and a board and be in the freezing sea (it is still Ireland after all!) within minutes. After making the surf submit you can enjoy the lively nightlife.
Here are our thoughts:
Pubs:
- Finnegan’s – small but great atmosphere and live feel good music on Saturdays
- Kenny’s – great boozer, alternative (might get a few Rasta hats and girls with hairy armpits but all good) -Â young crowd. Music too.
- 19th Hole – not bad pool table
- O Looney’s – disco bar with a night club on beachfront
- Cornerstone – Casual bite with biggest steaks you will ever see in these parts!
- Eugene’s – in Ennystymon (1 mile away from Lahinch) for an evening 2 pints pre getting ready to go out drive down and bring your business card to leave on the wall (great advertising for a “working” weekend!). A must do.
- Another pub across from Finnegan’s near ATM Foley’s I think smallest boozer ever but novelty of it being so small and ancient and barman is no younger than 95!!Â
Night clubs (if not swaying slightly from previous list)
- Coach – Much younger, serve cans – Â a little rough in my opinion
- O Looney’s (upstairs of above) - not bad, music may be a bit hardcore for some
- There is one more nightclub better than these too and very close to them but cant remember the name!! Unsurprising I hear you say, well, it has 2 levels, ask a local or you could hope to be guided by the beer-fairy!
All of the above within about 150 yards of eachother, no joke (except Eugene’s). Ideal for a pub crawl!!
By the way, the tiny Liscannor is also good craic with some good pubs too so it is worth the 5 minute drive.
