London for the Early May Bank Holiday

Monday, March 15th, 2010

The Early May Bank Holiday takes place on 3rd May 2009. London is a great place to visit for a city break and hopefully the weather in May will make venturing outdoors all the more enjoyable.

Theatre is a popular choice in London due to more Londoners staying and enjoying their city. Furthermore many UK couples and families had chosen London as an Easter short break destination and hotels had seen an influx of European visitors. Theatre was identified as a popular choice with musicals such as Fathom of the Opera, Grease, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! most demanded. See a full list here.

All the major discount airlines fly into one or more of the major London airports. London has a fantastic public transport system and all airports are accessible to central London in less than one hour. For visitors to London from the UK there are plenty of options using the train. By taking your time with accommodation searches it is possible to get top quality accommodation available for approx £50 per night in central London. But be sure to book early for the best deals. EliteRooms.com have over 600 hotels in London to choose from.

London is full of things to do. A good way to see the sights is to take the Thames Clipper from Waterloo to Greenwich. This takes in famous sights such as Big Ben, The London Eye and Docklands during this pleasant journey along the Thames. Walking Tours and Open Top Bus Tours are also very popular.

For the shoppers out there Oxford Street and Regent Street provide all the UK and International names such as Top Shop, GAP and Abercrombie (but get there early to avoid the queues!).

A Luxury Short Break in London that won’t break the bank

Monday, March 8th, 2010

It is a rare treat in London to find a hotel with a leisure centre that won’t break the bank for a short city break.  The Four Season’s Canary Wharf is a 5 star hotel located just off the Thames in Canary Wharf. Located at Westferry Circus in Canary Wharf, the hotel combines the finest of all that is contemporary with the traditions that are Four Seasons.  The quality needs to be seen to be appreciated and a range of photos is available here.

The hotel will cost approx £175 per night on the weekend for a luxury double room, a steal for a hotel of this quality.

While in Canary Wharf why not visit the Gaucho Argentian Restaurant in Canary Wharf where quality steaks and red wine are in plentiful supply. Canary Wharf is on the Jubilee Line and the West End can be reached by underground in about fifteen minutes.

Make it a gift for Mother’s Day on 14th March 2010 and surprise your Mother with 5* luxury in Central London.

Park Plaza County Hall London

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

The Park Plaza County Hall London is a top quality 4* hotel based in central London (between Westminster and Waterloo stations).  It provides visitors with a fantastic base for exploring London with tourist attractions such as Big Ben and The London Eye only a stones throw away.

This 4* hotel has nearly 400 rooms, some of which are studio suites with a separate living area.  A tip for all visitors is to request a room on one of the higher floors facing Big Ben where the views of London are magnificent.  The hotel won’t break the budget either!. For a room for two people in March 2010 it will cost in the region of £45 – £55 per person sharing.

The food in the hotel is good. However due to its location it is well worth taking a stroll to the West End (approx 20 minutes) to sample some of the top quality eateries London has to offer.

London Restaurant Recommendations

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I received the latest Trip Advisor list of most browsed destinations.  I was surprised the see a city like London so far down the list. London has experienced a large increase in tourist visitors in the last twelve months due to the weakness in Sterling against it local neighbour currency the Euro.

London is a vast city and one that would take a novel sized blog to cover in detail.  As a useful tool I thought it would be interesting to write a blog about my top five well priced London restaurants.  In a city of this size it is sometimes difficult to see the wood from the trees when it comes to picking restaurants.  All other top five selections welcome!:

Eyre Brothers – Shoreditch. This Iberian style restaurant is located in fashionable Shoreditch and has a fantastic food and wine menu. Try the  Black pudding starter – a real treat.

Guiseppes on Borough High Street.  Directly across from the famous Borough market, this authentic Italian restaurant has a fantastic atmosphere to match its top quality food.  On certain nights of the week a live singer is in lodge which really creates a good buzz around the restaurant.

Roast – Borough Market.  A traditional English restaurant in a fantastic location.  This restaurant boasts top quality food with very generous helpings.  Always busy from Thursday through Sunday so well worth booking in advance.

Black and Blue – Borough Market.  A top class steak house which won’t break the bank.  Located inside Borough Market.  I would recommend the T-Bone!

The Bridge Tandori – Tower Bridge. Well priced authentic Indian Restaurant located nearer Tower Bridge.
